Celebs at The 2010 Costume Institute Gala -- Red Carpet

Last night in New York City the industry gathered for the big apple’s most anticipated fashion event, the 2010 Costume Institute Gala at the MET. The theme of the night was “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity” and the ladies sure came dressed to impress.

The event was sponsored by the Gap and hosted by Oprah Winfrey, Patrick Robinson of the Gap and Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.

At the annual event, it’s common for designers to have a muse who they host and have sporting a specially designed gown for the night. My favourite designer and star collabo of the night was Alexander Wang, MIA and Zoe Kravitz. The fashion threesome just looked like they were having so much fun together. The ladies wore Alexander’s designs for the Gap. MIA sported a tan messed dress over a black gown while Zoe went for a simple look; a white tank top with black high-waisted black flare pants. I loved that they looked so relaxed and fashionable at the same time.

The event is filled with gorgeous gowns and out of this world couture designs. Yet this year I think more people were taking more fashion risks and having some fun, especially young Hollywood. There were so many looks that we LOVED HERE at liipstik, but my favourite that made my mother say, “Oh, she look real nice” was Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively in Marchesa (Fall 2010)paired with Christian Louboutin’s Lili Marlene pumps.

Lively looked STUNNING. Her look was young, sassy, fun and I didn’t expect her to wear anything else but something like this. It’s short and shows off her best assets, her long pretty legs. I think I might be a little bias here, just because I’m a HUGE fan of short, coloured, ruffled, one-shoulder dresses (I secretly imagined myself in this dress), but this was easily my favourite of the night and that's why she get's liipstik's stamp of approval. HANDS DOWN.

Tied for second place was Lively’s co-star Jessica Szohr and my girl crush Cassie. Szohr rocked wore a beautiful nude and lace Atelier Versace number, while Cassie opted for an electric blue gown.
