Crystal Renn in Vogue Mexico's April 2011 Issue

Liipstik Approved love, Crystal Renn is working it out for Vogue Mexico's April issue. This is Renn's first Vogue cover and we're proud that a curvier female model has stolen the show. Renn is known to be plus sized but she does look like she lost quite a bit of weight in her images, either way she still looks stunning.

A monochromatic colour scheme seems to be the theme in this spread and I love it. Jewel tones, and bright hues along with Renn's seamless modelling skills showcase the hot trends for spring.

Crystal Renn on Diversity on the Runways

I'm a big fan/ supporter of plus size model Crystal Renn. I think she is absolutely stunning and shows those skinny minnie runway princesses that she can model with the best of them despite her size. In this documentary Renn is discussing the diversity issue in the modelling industry with model turned documentary -filmmaker Sara Ziff. I love that she is openly discussing this because it is a huge issue. Especially when only one figure is showcased in magazines and runways, its not really fair or representative of their client base considering the women that purchase these pieces come from different backgrounds and have different body types.

Don't Feed the Models -- Crystal Renn's Gluttony in Vogue Paris October Issue!

So initially when I saw these pictures I had mixed emotions mainly because I liked the concept and colours but the execution to me was flawed. Crystal Renn is one of my fave models, so this is definitely not about her, its more so about the underlying message that this editorial is conveying.

I think its quite obvious where the photographer was going with this shoot and maybe it was to garner some buzz because this was done for Vogue Paris' 90th anniversary issue. In my opinion, being controversial was definitely the aim but in the end who do these images affects? Yea we can chalk it up to self expression and art but by perpetuating stereotypes about full figured women this doesn't do anything to build their self esteem if anything I think it brings them down.

Despite being involved in such a controversial photo shoot, Crystal delivers, looking absolutely stunning and rocking some jewels that I would definitely love to get my hands on!!

Photo of the Day -- Crystal Renn x Chanel

This pic is def my photo of the day simply because Crystal Renn a FULL FIGURED model, is WORKING this Chanel ad!! I don't think you understand how hard it is for any model who isn't rail thin and Caucasian to even get a campaign with the fashion house. Although it's hard its not impossible and Ms Renn with her exquisite beauty and super posing powers is proving just that. This may not be an international ad but it is definitely a start to chipping away at the negative norms of the industry. We support Crystal in her quest to take the industry by storm while breaking down the standards of what the fashion world considers "beautiful", Loves it!
