Elle's Women In Music

The Women of Music issue of the US version of Elle Magazine is probably my favourite issue every year. The reason being because it brings together two of the biggest loves of my life, music and fashion. The only thing missing from this issue to make my year is candy. Because let's be honest, Candy makes everything perfect! For the May 2011 publication, No Doubt singer and L.A.M.B designer Gwen Stefani graces the cover of the coveted issue. Stefani looks stunning in a Givenchy Pre-Fall 2011 collection dress made by Riccardo Tisci.

In the mag, Stefani talks about making music, writing, her marriage and other popstars like Rih-Rih, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. The blonde bombshell also talks about performing while preggers saying, “It was horrible. Certain songs would make me want to puke. You feel pretty gross when you are first pregnant. You don’t feel cute, you feel disgusting. You’re getting fat. It was hard.”

Also the issue features hip hop's leading lady Nicki Minaj and music. Nicki looks gorg a black and white portrait where she is sporting a Mark Fast knit minidress, a Maison Martin Margiela bodysuit, and suede Guiseppe Zanotti wedge boots. Nicki tells Elle about what it's like to be a female rapper in a predominately male industry, “I always wanted to play with the boys,” she tells the magazine. “I didn’t want to be a pawn in their game or have a sidekick role. I wanted to be more of a lead character—a superhero.”

You can also see music rookie, Willow Smith in the issue gushing about her upcoming debut album saying, It’s going to be a party beat. I think you’re gonna like it!” The magazine is filled with the biggest females in the music industry this year. You'll also see, Liipstik LOVE, Adele, Feist, Florence Welch and Jennifer Husdon. I love that Elle is embracing some of the strongest, most talented and unique female music stars in the world and giving them time to shine! LOVES IT! The issue is available on newsstands April 12th. Check out some pics from the issue below.

Willow Smith's "21st Century Girl" video

A few days ago Miss "Whip my Hair" aka Willow Smith dropped her second
video "21st Century Girl" and its definitely a fun track for the kiddies. For me I feel like the song is a mish mash of Rihanna and Ke$ha with a sprinkle of Willow herself. I've listened to the track a few times and the song hasn't penetrated me yet, I can't really get into it, I guess its missing that infectious melody that "Whip my hair" had. Either way I can't knock the 9 year old for doing her thing, maybe I set the standard up way to high for her. I may not be a big lover of the track but I'm sure this will be a hit amongst the other 21st century girls, check the video below!

Willow Smith for Teen Vogue

Here's some pictures from one of the industry's youngest fashionista, Willow Smith in Teen Vogue.

The spread is fun, hip and unique just like Willow. My fave look of the tween for the spread was the jacket that was covered in pictures of herself. Willow is such a little diva and fashionista. In the magazine she also talks about her style, fame and her message through her music. Here are some of Willow's quotes from her interview:

Willow on her Style: "I wear anything I feel like. If I want to put on a pair of Converse with a pencil stuck through them, I will."

Willow's take on fame: "I have no privacy . . . even when I’m skating. You can pick how famous you want to be. If you don’t work hard, then you aren’t going to have the success that you want. But if you work hard and dig in, then you are going to have the success that you want."

This 10-year-old had a great 2010 and by the looks of it 2011 is going to be just as great. Keep up the good work.

Check out the behind-the-scenes video of the shoot. In the video this kid is reading "Eat, Pray, Love." That is hilarious. She also talks about the three things she can't live without, her love for Target, her favourite music artists and describes her sense of style. How cute. Look at the rest of the final pictures below.

Liipstik's Top Fashion Makers of 2010 -- Willow Smith

This little bundle of fashion comes courtesy of Hollywood power couple, Jada and Will Smith. It’s their youngest child, dear little Willow. You know you have made it in the fashion industry until you experienced your first fashion scandal and during the 2010 AMAs this 10-year-old got her first taste of controversy. The little fashionable diva wore a gray jumper paired with black slouthcy boots and a yellow ruffled harness. She thought the ensemble was one-of-a-kind and specially made for her, but turns out it was a knockoff of a Mother of London design. No worries though, in true fashionista style Willow bounced back and her fashion sense has bloomed.

Several weeks ago, the tween debuted her new haircut which was a major hit. The best thing about the "Whip My Hair" singer is she dresses her age and is having fun literally throwing on anything, just like all 10-year-olds. She has fun with colours, textures and of course her hair. When I was 10, I wish my mom let me have as much fun with fashion as she is.

Willow is a fashion force to watch in the new year and for her keen eye for fashion she's Liipstik's Fashion Rookie of the Year for 2010.

Check out some of Willow's fun and cooky outfits from 2010.

Willow Smith's AMA Knockoff!

At the AMA's on Sunday Willow Smith's fit was definately one to speak about. I mean how do you find fly pieces for little people? I always say kudo's to her stylist who usually does a great job, well until this pic surfaced. Apparently, Willow's fly yellow ruffled harness is the talk of the town right now because it's apparently a knock off of a Mother of London design!! Obviously this is not the 10-year-olds fault and it must be hard finding high fashion pieces for the little fashionista, but is it really smart to have her wear a bootleg on the red carpet? Not cute! Anyways here's what the designer, Mildred von Hildegard had to say about the ordeal:

"I’m disappointed and saddened that this will negatively impact my business. My original design is now recognized in the mass media as someone else’s work, and it’s very hurtful on both a personal and professional levels. I hope this can be resolved, and I wish nothing but the best to Willow. "

With that being said, I'm guessing someone's getting fired rigghhhtt about now! Anyways Liipstik still loves Miss Willow and she still looked fly either way!

Earlier in the month we previewed Willow Smiths new song "Whip my Hair" and we've got the video of her whippin it real good! Soo happy they made a video for this song cuz fly girls everywhere have been bumping to this non-stop! The video is cute and we love that they were careful to make her look her age, kept it funky and colourful keeping it true to Miss. Willow. All in all, very fun video can't wait to see what she comes with next!

New Music -- Willow Smith " I Whip My Hair"

The youngest off-spring of Will and Jada Smith, Miss Willow has just released a track called "I whip my hair". She's been seen on the scene, working it out on the red carpet with her fam, shes known to rock funky threads that seem to only work for her. Shes like a lil Rhianna in the making, except cuter. I didn't even know this child could sing but you better BELIEVE this track is my crack right now!! Its been on repeat since like 9am this morning lol, the beat is quick, hook is catchy and it would be perfect for the club. Who knew a 9yr old could make me bump like this!! Anyways you be the judge, do you love Willows new joint???
